The Thoracic Extension Rack (or T-rack) distributed by Solann Therapeutics is a back stretching device that helps promote mobility of the thoracic spine. As a triathlete with a background in swimming, I have struggled with poor flexibility in my middle and upper spine for a long time.

Ever since I can remember, I have had what is commonly referred to as “swimmer’s slouch”, a postural deficiency that I am very self-conscious about. In my case, this unattractive slouch is caused by tight over-developed chest muscles and a stiff thoracic spine brought on by the repetitive nature of swimming movements.
The T-rack is helping to change that; with just a small investment of time each day, I can already feel and see a big difference in my posture. My head is now stacked over my body in more proper alignment, my shoulders are further back, and my back is becoming straighter. I can feel that my overall range of motion for swimming has improved and it is easier to maintain a streamlined position with both arms extended above my head.
The T-rack is also helping me to maximize my lung capacity by opening my chest further and allowing me to draw in more air with each breath. This, of course, is very important in all three disciplines of triathlon!
Overall, the T-rack is helping to improve my posture which in turn makes me a more efficient and confident athlete. I would recommend the T-rack not just to other athletes, but to anyone whose posture is compromised by everyday activities such as sitting in front of a computer or driving for extended periods of time.
Important Features of the T-Rack:
- Light weight
- Easy to store
- Adjustable head rest
Suggested Use:
- Begin with small time frames (2 minutes) every day
- Progress to 2x a day (at lunch and dinner) for 2-3 minutes
- Gradually work up to longer time frames (up to 10 minutes) once a day in the evening
- Once you can do 10 minutes, reduce frequency to 10 minutes 3x per week
